Naturopathic Medicine
Dr. Maria Perillo, ND
Dr. Perillo is a graduate of the National College of Naturopathic Medicine, an Oregon based accredited naturopathic medical school. Dr. Perillo’s practice involves the use of nutritional, botanical, and homeopathic substances to enhance well being, and to manage chronic and acute health care conditions. Dr. Perillos’ previous professional experience has included classical piano, technical writing, and most recently, working with severely and profoundly retarded and handicapped children. In her “former life” she was a track and field competitor for many years, and is well versed in exercise physiology and weight training. Currently, when not in the office, Dr. Perillo operates a rescue group for animals needing medical care and behavioral rehabilitation.
Natural Medicine
Naturopathic physicians have long taken pride in a specific niche of natural healing which they have endeavored to call "naturopathy". In states in which "naturopathy" has achieved licensure, N.D.s are regarded as primary care physicians. In other states, such as Massachusetts, N.D.s are not licensed as physicians, and many choose to practice on a consultation basis, so that patients can maintain a primary care relationship with their MDs, while continuing to use their naturopaths in an adjunctive capacity for general health care support.

Truths About Tradition
Naturopathic medicine is traditional medicine. Its' roots are deep, and far pre-date our "modern" surgery and disease based medical practices of today. Although restricted by rules governing the practice of "medicine" in the commonwealth of Massachusetts, Dr. Perillo continues to provide support for both chronic and acute health conditions. Many treatments are diet and exercise based approaches to health and wellness; other plans are herbal or homeopathically based natural medications which support specific organs of the body and help to optimize their efficiency. |
